The Third Field

THE PRACTICE BEHIND TERROIR TRAILS

Care for the life between you.

The Third Field is the experience of being together: how you connect, share everyday life, respond to differences, and make room for what matters to each of you.

It is felt in how easy it is to speak, how care reaches daily life, and whether each person has room to matter. The practice helps you notice what sustains that shared life and what this season may ask of it.

Relationships extend across a life. Work pressure can follow someone home; care, affection, friendship and enjoyment can shape how they meet work. The practice begins with one relationship at a time.

A Couples Map is a written reading of that experience: what connects you, how daily life is carried and what deserves attention now. Explore the Couples Map.

Ink and slate ribbons interweave, with gold accents at several crossings, representing the shared field created between two people.

WHAT WE NOTICE AND NURTURE

The conditions for a good life together.

Feeling known. Care that reaches everyday life. Room to disagree and find a way back. A future that has space for both people.

Connection and recognition

Trust, affection, enjoyment, appreciation and the ways each person feels seen.

Everyday care and coordination

How practical work and its planning are carried, what supports each of you, and what may need to change.

Communication and repair

How you listen, differ, pause, return to a conversation and respond to what happened.

Shared direction and individual voice

How decisions take shape, what you want together, and how each person can speak in their own right.

Both people influence the field, within circumstances neither fully controls. Responsibility and impact may be very different. A reading must be able to name that difference.

THE METHOD BEHIND THE PRACTICE

Deeper reflection. Considered synthesis. Human judgment.

Our science-led practice brings research-informed questions, a structured reading of your reflections and a Director’s considered judgment together. Your experience gives the work its meaning.

Research-informed reflection

The original couples questionnaire draws on peer-reviewed relationship research. Its sequenced questions invite careful attention beyond first impressions, with room to describe your experience, what it means to you and what you hope to make possible.

A reading you can recognize

The Director connects the experiences you choose to share: the points of connection, the differences and the possibilities ahead. You review the reading, correct what misses the mark and decide what to carry forward.

Directors chosen with care

Directors are hand-selected for experience, discretion and relational gravitas: the presence to hear perspectives, hold complexity and bring mature judgment.

FROM REFLECTION TO CHOICE

Meet the next season with intention.

A difficult season can arrive before you have had time to prepare. Even a welcome change can ask more of a relationship than you expected. The practice offers a deliberate pause to understand what is changing, hear what each person needs, and make a realistic plan for moving through the transition together.

For a Couples Map, each person reflects privately. A Director considers the circumstances and experiences you each choose to share, and brings them into a reading for you to question, correct and use.

Explore the five movements of the readingThe Seasonal Field: five movements from season and inner weather through connection, changing conditions and interaction to cultivating the next season; a return invites learning and revision.

The five movements give you a way to explore your current season and return to what matters.

Return to what matters.

After review, you may decide to protect something already nourishing, choose a practical arrangement or a small practice, or make no new practice. A proposal is not an agreement until everyone who will carry it chooses it.

You can return to your existing Map at a date or event you choose. New reflections for a later Map bring fresh choices about where those answers may be used.

For a guided experience, your private questionnaire helps the Director choose the focus and selected exercises for your day. Guided Couples, co-founder and team experiences include the relevant workbook, with other areas available for optional exploration afterward.

The Circle of Friends Workbook is included with friendship Councils. The Council of Honor creates a personalized artifact of memories and appreciation. Standalone readings begin with the questionnaire and require no book purchase.

A HUMAN PRACTICE

Your judgment belongs in the reading.

Your own words remain visible within the Director’s interpretation. You can question what you read, correct what feels misplaced and choose what deserves a conversation. The shared Map takes shape through your review.
